Culture Education Institutional Intervention in Historical Sites / 2015

San Mateo Coyoacán CDMX

This was a rigorous restoration on a Manor House from the XVIII century baroque period in Mexico adyacent to the neigborhoods of San Diego and San Lucas in the Coyoacán district . The property currently hosts The Rodolfo Usigli  Forum, The Enrique Lizalde theatre, The Paso de Gato publishing house, The Stained Glass Workshop and The Writers School; a private cultural complex directed by the Mexico´s general society of writers .

The design premise was always to respect and highlight the artistic and historical value of the property; and this consisted in depurating the existing construction of inauthentic added elements from it´s original unity . Spatially we managed to make more compatible the relationship shared between the school of writers, the publishing house and the theatre, facilitating the quality of coexistence in its recovered spaces, granting them dignity . The exterior enviroment was completely restored with total clarity, just two matt black steel planes were incorporated with absolute discretion; one horizontally as a cantilever covering the entrance to the complex, and other in vertical position as a banner preceding the access .
